Corporate profile

A full-service general contractor

Vaughan Paving services its own fleet of paving, concrete, and excavating equipment as well as its dump trucks, trailers, and service vehicles, to ensure that our equipment is maintained to our stringent standards. Our workforce is trained in load security and takes annual CVOR rules and regulation refresher courses, so we follow Ministry guidelines for vehicle checks and safety on a daily basis.

Today, Vaughan Paving is a full-service general contractor that provides clients with in-house paving, concrete, grading, sewer & watermain, excavation, emergency repair work, winter maintenance, line painting, and project management services. Our management team is hands-on for every project, no matter how big or small — from the pricing and bidding of a project, to laying a job out and setting our crews up on site, to the completion of the job.

History

How we got here

Vaughan Paving Ltd. was established in April of 1982 by Lorenzo Antonini and Angelo Spano, after having worked together in the paving and road building industry for several years with another paving company. They rented a small office unit in the Concord area and started with a small asphalt patching crew, two dump trucks, a skid steer, a couple of rollers, and a lot of ambition.

Their hands-on approach on every project gained them a strong reputation for quality and allowed them to start growing the business by providing a wider variety of services. After a few years they added a grading crew as well as a concrete crew, in order to service their clients' needs and to tackle complete road and parking lot constructions in house. At the same time, Vaughan Paving began competing in the municipal and government sectors for road reconstruction and repair contracts, which allowed the company to grow and handle larger scale projects.

The growth of the company led to the owners deciding to build their own office and shop at 220 Basaltic Road in Vaughan in 1997. This allowed them to better maintain and organize their growing equipment fleet and to set down permanent roots in order to continue to service their growing clientele — and it is where we are still located today.

Management

Efficient in the office, self-sufficient in the field

Vaughan Paving runs its own concrete, grading, excavation, paving, sawcutting and grinding crews, so most of the work on any project is completed in house.

Scheduling

We conduct scheduling meetings twice daily to give clients accurate dates, keeping both weather and unforeseen events in mind. Our project managers and site foremen conference call daily so any variation is communicated to all parties promptly.

Coordination

On time-sensitive projects requiring several subtrades, we hold a general meeting with all of them at our office before work begins — an in-depth analysis of the project and our collective plan of attack, so issues are resolved before they become problems.

Quality control

Specifications are forwarded to our suppliers and mix designs and shop drawings approved before work commences. Site foremen and project managers carry full specification books and drawings, and check work on site against them throughout.

Vaughan Paving is very particular about which subcontractors we use on a project — we want to be sure their quality of work and commitment to completing on time is at the same level as ours. We have worked with many highly qualified electrical, excavation, sewer & watermain, landscaping, and pavement marking contractors, and during a project we are in daily communication with them and their teams to ensure continuous work on site.

Vaughan Paving is well known industry-wide and prides itself in the quality of the products and projects we construct. All of our employees are trained with WHMIS, traffic safety courses, and MTO CVOR training. Most of our workforce has worked with us continuously over the past 20 years or so, ensuring consistency amongst our crews and our quality.

Our schedulers and project managers review weather forecasts almost hourly, so weather-sensitive work only proceeds when conditions favour a quality product. We also provide our clients' representatives with contact information for all site foremen and project managers, so there is a direct line of communication to our on-site personnel.
